My 9 month old takes two 2hr naps at home, but is only taking 20 minute naps (about 4x a day) at day care. I know it's b/c one child wakes up and it starts getting noisy, and it's not dark in the room. When we're out and about he'll sleep in his stroller, but I usually put a light blanket over the canopy to block out the light and some sound. It works well, but I'm not sure how I would drape it over the day care crib.

Anyone have other suggestions for daycare? I wish they made baby sleep masks!

Having been a day care provider, I assure you that your baby's day care would like him to take longer naps as well! Your suggestions to them will be helpful, but keep in mind that what works at home does not necessarily work at day care. I never ceased to be amazed at the number of parents who would give me very specific instructions regarding getting their little one down for a nap (Rock him 157 times while humming the theme song to "Gilligan's Island, then lay him down on his left side and cover him with his special blankie but leave his feet out, then massage his back in a counter-clockwise circular motion until he's breathing deeply...repeat if he wakes, etc.). Day care providers have their hands full with several infants at the same time and it is impossible to keep the same routine as parents do at home. The best thing to do is to start introducing more noise and light at home during nap times so that your baby is used to these disturbances and can sleep through them. You will also be glad that you did so once you have more children.

To be honest, I think you should get your son adapted to taking one nap a day sometime shortly after lunch. Sporadic cat naps for a child at this age does nothing but irritate the situation. At a little over a year old your child will move up to another age group and will have to adapt to taking a nap once a day for 2 to 3 hours. As far as all the noise and it not being quite so dark...you will have to accommodate his surroundings for the place he spends the majority of his time. Which, in most cases is day care. It may be more convenient for you on the weekends do continue doing it the way YOU like, but in actuality it is better for your child to keep him on the same schedule as to not confuse him. That is why he wakes up...you've catered to dark and quiet his entire nap time. Just let him be...if he sleeps then great, he was tired...if not, then he wasn't really all that tired. I say keep him up til after lunch...then he'll be exhausted for sure! And what do ya know...a couple hours of relaxation for yourself! Good Luck!

My 3 month old replaced into the very similar until eventually i began to swaddle him with the Kiddopotamus Swaddle me blanket. I not in any respect truly swaddled my son as a newborn except possibly the first 3 or 4 days when we were given homestead from the well being facility. yet now that i take advantage of this i visit basically get my son to nap longer than 5 or ten minutes! he will nap everywhere from 30 min to an a million and a 1/2 at a time. drowsing for longer circumstances would not impression him dozing via the evening both. He nevertheless sleeps for basically as lengthy for me. truly he seems to stay in a sturdy mood longer by the day. i imagine he can sleep more beneficial useful swaddle b/c it restricts his legs and fingers from waking him up. The velcro works wonders for making particular the swaddling would not come free. My son may do the very similar as yours---doing the finished sorta nap issue at the same time as on my breast yet after I unlatch wake! As for the homestead projects i'd get disenchanted over it earlier too at the same time as my son replaced into no longer drowsing and that i could not in any respect truly freshen up like i had to. Now I actually have time to tidy up and performance a touch time to myself right here and there.

Have the daycare prodvider try a radio turned down very low or maybe a fan pointed away from the crib. This is what we do to drown out the noise at our very noisy house during nap time for our youngest!

Stop trying to accomodate him when he is not in day care and let him learn to deal with life as it really is. Babies do better when they are allowed to adapt to their surroundings rather than having their surroundings adapt to them.
