I Want to be a game developer and i want to know what i need and i want to start on a mac. im gonna try and start c++ first then go to maya cause my friend said he can get maya 8 for me and what schools are best for game development because im in 10th grade and i want to start early Thanx

well i know maya and programming are two diffrent career paths but i want to learn them both because im into 3d design and programming video games

to be a real game programmer who actually earns money you need an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science degree from a good universtiy. Crap like what you see on tv like westwood college and stuff like that only gets you game testing jobs where you make very little money.

You listed two programs with 2 very different career paths. Maya is for graphics. C++ is for programming. You must choose a career path. Game developers don't do both. 10th grade is actually a little late to be starting programming, but it's not too late. I would go to amazon.com and buy up some game programming books. Read them, and do the exercises. Start with a book like "Beginning C++ through Game Programming" and then move on to books like "Game Programming Gems" and then after a couple years, move on to game AI, 3D gaming, etc. It will take you years. If you have the dedication to do it, then by all means, do it.
