It is a fact - They crawl out of the ground when their tunnels are filled with water. They can climb up the side of your pool looking for a dry spot and slip into the water and drown. Probably the most logical explanation

While it is possible they were dropped by birds. You know, the rain moisture washing off their normal goey covering and got too slippery for the bird to hold on to. But, more likely they crawled in from the soil. Yes, they can go vertical. Also, it could be you have a small hole in the bottom of your pool that you aren't aware of because the leak is so small. Last option is through the filter/ pump area. Anything that has contact with the soil can be a roadway in.

Does this happen often, or just this one time? I've never noticed earthworms going anywhere you couldn't account for crawling or floating as the ground swelled with water. Most above ground pools wouldn't have a practical way for them to navigate. If the pool is full of water, they would not be able to enter from a small hole, as the pressure would be too great from the draining water.
If this is a one time thing, I wonder if someone is pulling a prank on you?

They got into the trees because the mama worm climbed the tree and laid eggs.
Really you would have to figure out what kind of worm it is, then you could guess how it got into the pool. If it's earthwoems, they may have just washed in off of the lawn. If it's tree worms, they fell out and got flung into the water... et cetera.

An in-floor pool because of fact above floor swimming pools are actually not what i like. Kinda hard to describe. Bu if I have been on a budet, or making a short lived pool for lik a occasion or sometin, probably above-floor!

The fall out of trees, some are carried by the wind, and yes birds can also drop them. Probably they fell out of nearby trees by the wind.

they crawl in by accident. They come out of the ground looking for dry places and inadvertently wind up in your swimming pool. Kinda ironic if you think about it.
