The "war on terror" is a misnomer -- on purpose.
Taking the name seriously, if anyone anywhere in the world experiences extreme fear for any reason, we still need this war.
That is, of course, absurd.
A war against a feeling makes no sense.
We've been mis-using the word 'war' for a long time now, but this is a military use (unlike, say, the "war on poverty" and the other non-wars). So it seems sort of warish -- even though military wars are fought between countries, not between a country and an emotion.
It will be over either when they find a more lucrative war to declare (hard to imagine, since this "justifies" draconian infringement of rights, and an endless need to no-bid contracts to thieves), or people wise up and understand how bogus this "war against a feeling" is.

We will never win the war on terror. This is a religious war. They have been brought up from birth to believe that they are right and we are a nation of sinners and nothing we do or say will ever change that.
Anyway, the bible says, if there is ever peace in the Middle East, then the Rapture is about to happen.

I do not think anybody knows for sure, but the Cold War lasted from the end of WWII (1945) until 1987. That is a little over 40 years, and I would not be surprised if the War on Terrorism lasted generations as well. Going to war over ideology is not like going to war over a broken treaty or a piece of land. There is no compromise in this war.

I don't know how long. I would consider it won if the rulers in the Middle East and throughout the world stopped allowing terrorist groups safe harbor and if the primary birth countries of these extremest started putting them to death rather than helping their cause.

How do you win a war where you are fighting the invisible? You dont know when and where you will be targeted. The war on Terror will never end we keep on complicating it day by day. Maybe if the Americans leave Iraq we will have won

We will never win the War on Terror. Terrorism is around because people have different ideals and some decide to use violence to force those ideals on others. So unless everyone all of a sudden gets filled with happiness and sunshine, the war will never end.

When our government declares it over. Or when it subsides and we enter a peace time. If we don't have enemies attacking or planning to attack us, a war on terror would be pointless, wouldn't it? Of course, that won't mean that terrorism is over, it will mean it just minimally affects Americans.

When we the civilized country could sleep with out one eye open. it's going to be a long war because we are not together. Too much fighting between our own. Everybody want to be the leader at the same time.
