Actually, I don't think these answers are correct.

I seem to recall from my reading of the book Fast Food Nation, that McDonalds was founded by two brothers (who I believe were named McDonald). Ray Croc was a traveling milkshake machine salesman who was looking to start his own business, made a sales call to the McDonald brother's store, was so impressed that he ultimately offered to buy the McDonald brothers out of the business. I am sure that they (and their kids and grandkids) regret the decision to sell ALL their equity, but oh well.

Raymond Albert Croc opened the first mcdonalds in Des Plaines, Illinois in 1955. they made $366 the first day!
