Besides all the medicinal uses of marijuana and the multiple uses of hemp, Marijuana is a multi-million dollar a year business in the US and all of its profits currently go untaxed. Those tax dollars could be used to improve schools and help lower health care cost, etc. Plus I believe legal marijuana would create a more mellow lethargic society that would be too busy laughing at Cartoon Network to commit so many random acts of violence.

In Amsterdam marijuania is legal and they have the lowest violent crime rate in the netherlands.

Because it's all about freedom. If I choose to put a substance in my body, I should have every right to. Smoking marijuana does not infringe upon other peoples rights. I wouldn't smoke it, but it's not my place nor the governments place to tell others how to live their lives.

Of course it will never be legalized. The amount of money the government gets from drug arrests is staggering.
