Why don't people think about consequences before taking action? I know this isn't true for all people but it seems like, more and more, people just do things to benifit the now and don't think about the future reprecussions that their actions might facilitate....what do you think?

I think it's a growing problem in our culture and a sad state of affairs. My parents taught me about choices and consequences from my earliest memory. And I reared my children the same way. Now I'm shocked that it's not so much the thing these days. Instant gratification.

Teenagers and children are wired to only think in the moment and immediate gratification. This is what keeps them happy, confident and ready to embrace all life haves to offer.

Unfortunately, unless that feeling is tempered with wisdom of knowing that what you do today seriously influences tomorrow, the attitude of "life for the moment" can be disasterous.

The opposite problem is true for adults. Adults are so constantly thinking of either the past or the future that they can not find confidence, happiness and enjoyment in the moment and spend too much time worrying and planning instead of living.

Balance is necessary...not to be too grown up and not to be too child like. Live in the moment but realize that what you do today is a integral part of everything...past and future for self and others.

The big key to happiness, is to stay in the moment and only deal with the challenges that are happening right now instead of spending too much time worrying about what might happen tomorrow or what happened in the past...each day has enough problems without trying to bite off problems that may arise later or wasting time trying to reverse what has already been done. Its called "One day at a time." Children and teens have this concept mastered. Why did the adults forget?

Consequences do matter, but the future, as well as the past is only an illusion..the past is over and the future has yet to occur, the only thing that is real is the present, just breathe and don't have so many worries about what other people are doing....u got no control!!

Because once you're dead all of your thoughts, ambitions, memories, everything is gone. There is no point to life but to find happiness now while you still have time. And as to the future... I don't mind the way our society is going because the future is so very unpredictable right now. Its a rush.

i normally try to live for today... b/c tomorrow may never come but that also doesn't mean, i run around like a crazed maniac thinking there is no consequences to my actions either.

People know that here and now gets them to the future, and they think "I will cross that bridge when i get to it, but for now, i have to walk."
