Yes, deception is necessary as much as I don't like to say it. We are human and MANY are weak (lacking will power). Imagine a world where everything was perfect (Utopia). There would never be anything to solve, no action, and many other reactions that we, people in general, find entertaining or interesting. Sometime our best moments in life were mistakes. You just can't have good with out bad. Aristotle would agree;)

I think deception is necessary, but that depends on what situation you're in. Sometimes the truth is better left untold.

That would be the same as lying? I've found that to not only be unnecessary, but also bad for relationships and character.

It's never necessary unless your life is in danger. Example...deceiving a killer who's holding you hostage.
