uder the apartheid system.blacks were required to carry pass papers that restricted there movements and they could not go to the cities with out permission.education, medical service and living areas were extremely inferior.mixed marriages were outlawed and any one could be arrested and held without cause.blacks had no voting rights

Black and colored people had separate places to sit, weren't represented in government, got less education, not all jobs were open to them, they lived in their own neighborhoods etc. If I'm not mistaken there were different rules for different 'types' of colored person. There were blacks, colored (mixed), Indian and white people. Each with their own level of privilege or lack thereof.
