Do you really think it happens?

I was in a terrible car accident, my back was broken in 4 places, my ribs shattered puncturing most of my internal organs, except my heart and one lung. I had 17 surgeries, and they didn't think i'd live let alone walk. I made it, and dr's kept telling me i'd never walk, but i do today. I think sometimes dr's take the negative side so they don't get people's hopes up when things don't go the best possible way. I was very frustrated, and didn't want to try for a long time, then I got very angry and used that anger to get thru the pain and frustration of the situation. I was in the hospital for over a year, and it was difficult. There are no words to even describe it.

In 2004 i had a really bad car accident and i was told that it would be very difficult for me to ever be able to walk again..the doctor told me best case it would be maybe a year or so before i could even start to think about walking again. I told him he was wrong and i proved it to him.within 2months i was walking with a walker and in five months i was using a cane..the whole time i was going to therapy i met a few other people who where told the same thing and there is one poor guy who was told so many times he would never walk again that he gave up and barely made and effort to even try..so the answer to your question is yes some people do stop trying..

If I couldn't move my legs at all or I did not have legs anymore then I would give up. If I thought that there was a little hope then I would keep trying. I hear a lot of stories about people being told they could never walk again but they tried and tried and they finally were able to.

Unless my legs were amputated I would not give up.

Look at what Christopher Reeve was able to do in the face of failure! He defied the odds and was making real progress. If he had lived he may have been able to walk again and live a normal life again.

If there were even a small chance that i could walk again I would keep going for it.

NEVER!! Y give up trying because man told you it wasn't possible. There is a means to everything in this day and age. It could be from sheer determination that you walk again!!!

Never. Yes there are people who are told that, but you should never stop fighting. My husband spent years learning to walk again, and there are many new techknowlogies being created everyday.

Yes, I do think it happens. Depending on the cause, sometimes there is no compensation (no way around it)---in that case, I would be forced to give up trying.

Definitely not, because i don't think that there is anything that we can't achieve when we actually try hard for it. One can get anything and everything if he genuinely tries. I know that the person who suffers from such problem looses all his hopes, but yet life has to go on. And for that we have to try until we get succeeded..

I wouldn't simply because I've met at least one clinically paralysed woman who could walk. And research is being done for an implant to help your brain better communicate with your paralysed limbs.
