I was told I could give my 6 month old non-baby juice as long as it is diluted with water, half and half. I'm skeptical, don't i have to give her baby juice or grown up juice (if you will) is okay? Orange, apple, grape, pinapple all is okay? Please help. I want your opinions before I call the pedi.

"Baby juice" was made up by Gerber and other baby products companies to make more money. Save yourself the headache and wallet-ache and buy regular juice and dilute it half-and-half. Be sure not to give the baby more than four to six ounces of diluted juice per day. They really don't NEED juice, it's just a nice way for them to get a fruit or veggie serving and it gives them variety. You can do any kinds of juices, but you may want to hold off on the citrus juices until the baby is over a year. Sometimes the acid is not friendly to baby. (My son got a rash from pineapple when he was about 10 months. He's not allergic to it, but it was a little too acidic.) Good luck!

The good thing about the Infant juice is that it is already half and half with water, so you don't need to add water to these. I gave my children Juicy Juice mixed half-and-half with boiled water from about four months on. I am sceptical about giving babies tap water because of all the bacterias in it that make even adults sick. I would not give any orange, or pineapple juice until age one because they are highly allergic. Apple, White Grape, and Grape are the best choices to start with. I loved Juicy Juice, but most stores have an equivelent brand right next to it that is also acceptable, as long as it is 100% juice.

My 6 month old drinks juice every day for a mid day type snack. I have been using Baby juice and was wondering the same thing. I am going to get 100% juice from the normal juice isle in the store. My doc told us just to make it 50% juice and 50% water. He also said for a teething baby freeze it and make some ice pops. He told me to stick with Apple and White Grape. I would stay away from anything citruis. Good Luck!!

It does not have to be baby juice, but it should be 100% juice (not juice drinks that only have 5% juice or something). I've read in some places to hold off on the citrus (orange) juices for a while, because of the acidity. It's harder on little ones' stomachs. The rest should be fine. The reason for the dilution is because of all the sugar in the juice. My son (9.5 months) actually does not like juice. I mentioned this to the doctor, and he said that it was fine...he doesn't recommend juice anyway because of the "empty calories." I've read that 4oz of juice a day is really all you should give children of any age. Children who drink 12oz of juice a day or more are 3 times more likely to be obese. Juice is not "bad," it just should be used in moderation (like anything!).

I have two boys, and you do NOt have to give her baby juice by any means she can have regular juice I would just mix half juice half water. The wrost that can happen is a little bit of diareaa if she has to much juice. The best Juice to give her is Apple, Grape, Cranberry ect.. Not Orange or Pinapple those are to acidic for her. Usually you don't give babies anything accidic ike oranges or Pineapple untill there over 1 years old, because it can cause a rash or stomache ake. But anything else is fine. I hope this helps!

They don't need juice at all. Every now and then as a special treat is okay. But not on a daily basis. Youre just pumping them full of empty sugar.

Give water with meals, water is something alot of kids (and adults!) are lacking these days.
If you want to give a sweet treat for a snack, give them fruit. Not the jarred kind... thats just about as bad as juice! All the flavor and very little of the nutrition. Fresh fruits and veggies are SO SO important.

When you do give juice, mix it like 1/3 juice to 2/3 water... or even more than that! And no citrus!

Yeah, I'm sure it's fine. We still get the baby juice and do like a 2/3 water 1/3 juice mix, but recently my 14 month old has been more interested in my 100% no sugar added Cranberry juice. It's becoming one of his favorites. I mean I'd get what you want, not what your MIL says to get, but I don't think there's harm in normal juice.

I would wait until closer to 12 months to offer juice. Really, you're just giving them sugar. If you want to give fruits, much healthier to just give fruits and not juices. When you do introduce juice (baby or regular) be sure that you do dilute it at least 50/50 with water. No citrus (orange juice for example) until after 12 mos of age. It is too acidic and can cause problems.

You can give your baby "grown up juice" at 6 months. You do need to dilute it with water though. I would stay away from juices with pulp, and that are too acidy. Apple, grape, & pear juice is what I would start with. I give my little girl (6 months) pear juice on a daily basis and her doc is okay with it. I also use apple juice to mix her cereal instead of formula...she likes it that way!

Skip the citrus juices - not good. You can buy the apple juice that you would drink and dilute it. Baby juice is just another marketing ploy for these companies to make more money.
