Build inbound links to your website.
Most of the directories online charge a one time fee to review your site and add it to their index. Here are three of my favorites:
http://www.avivadirectory.com/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=kahmer
http://www.kahmer.com
http://botw.org/?uid=20578
The more inbound links to your site, the better you will rank
with Yahoo / Google / MSN.
Also work on your meta tags. Here is an
article on how they work: http://www.richkahmer.com/meta-tags.html

The easiest way to advertise your web site without a budget is called "BUM Marketing."

Write articles and include your link either in the article itself,or in a resource box or both depending on the company.

The article should be related to your web site and so interested people will click the link to learn more. If your web site is about dog grooming do not write articles about house painting.

Do a search for article directories and you should find about 50 or so free directories. Sign up as a contributor and post articles. Do not post the same article to all 50 directories as you will be penalized for duplicate content and possably spamming.

Another way to get your site indexed quickly is to have a blog. Put a few articles on it with links to your site. Set up the RSS feed to your own Google or Yahoo account and the spiders will follow the links back to your web site and get you indexed in the search engines for free.

Article advertising takes about three weeks before you start seeing any traffic, but keep at it with one article a day and in about five or six months you should start seeing a fairly steady income.

Search for free affiliate sites in the same or allied business line, having different products. This way both parties will benefit from visitors to each others' site.

Write articles and include your resource box at the end. If possible, offer a free report in the resource box to visitors who sign up at your site.

Also, submit a news release every month. There are free submission services.

Hope this helps.

Try Yahoo Small Business, it's cheap, simple and effective. Remember the old saying it takes money to make money? Please look into the suggestion because it may pay off multifold quickly if your service and/or product is worth it. Also try www.jonesstreetusa.com they are a marketing firm that really can work with you and sometimes require no up front capital if they see your business as a worth while venture to promote. Good luck!

ask some people to go to your website everyday using search. that should put you higher up on the search list. if you do it enough you might even get on the first few pages for that search. and that'd be a free search result.
ask your friends if they'd put a little link on their pages.
