We used to play charades when the kids were small and we were snowed in or had a power outage (often at the same time) and it always was a hit with the kids especially if you can find old clothing that can be used as props so the kids get to dress up in character. Impromptu puppet shows with made-up-on-the-spot skits was another thing we used to do a lot of. Both are low/no cost things to do and are time consuming.

I have kids about that age range and they love cards games like Uno, I Spy-Go Fish etc. I don't think they still make Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but I am sure you could make something up that is similar, kids always seem to like that one. Or just a simple game of Marco Polo is always fun too.

How about card games like Slapjack, War, Go
Fish, Old Maid. You could print up the rules to a bunch of games and they could try the ones they think sound interesting. Check out the link below.

Play animal charades-- find a whole bunch of pictures of animals/ or print them off from clip art etc... and but them into a bowl. Have each kid act out an animal and have the rest of them guess. It is a ton of fun to play with 7 and 8 yr. olds!

how about an indoor scavenger hunt?
you can set rules....
all adult rooms are off limits......no running......etc
if each child has different items on their list, there will be no "racing" competition.....only to get all the items on your list correctly...( emphasis on accuracy should avoid potential wars )
you can supplement items to search for by visiting your local dollar store , but...you should be able to find a million things around the house...
you can make items color or size or texture specific to make the game more challenging. ( for example...something red and smooth could be an apple...or a ball....)
short list = short game
longer lists = longer game
the kids should have a blast.......have neat little prizes or treats for the winner ( s )...

Musical chairs with a fast beat type music. Freeze tag if you have a large room w/ no furniture. They need excersize or you will regret it, trust me on this one. Bingo is a good game for alot of kids and cheap.

The only games I can really think of are sleeping lions or musical statues or you could even do a little obstacle course. Good Luck and have fun :)

u should try boardgames such as monopoly or operation. another alsome game that not only kids enjoy, but adults as well is twister. If that does not work try letting them color, I know it sounds boring for 7&8 year old kids but you have to make it enjoyable. tell them its a contest to make it more interesting and who ever wins should get a prize. one more suggestion, kids LOVE sharades!
