"Invaders from outside" (i.e terrorism), political fighting between the ruling class and the Senate (Dem and Republicans), borders that have grown too large and indefensible, an increasing populace indifferance. Sounds like Rome right? No. How about right here in America. What can we do to prevent our own "fall"?

Could be!

Also, I have a VERY inelegant "Pac-Man" theory, probably cribbed from helf-remembered history lectures.

As American influence is felt more abroad, foreign influences are felt more at home. People have issues with Spanish on official US documents (I do, too), but Puerto Rico is a US territory and its residents are US citizens. So did the Spanish speakers come to us, or did we come to the Spanish speakers?

Great question! I wish I could do it justice with a better answer.

our political infighting is not the same. We don't have different political leaders running off with chunks of the military and threatening everybody with it. There is no civil war or threat of one here. Oh and George bush is not about to go have sex with Jenifer Granholm (Michigan's Governor). So things are different that way too.

We are not falling any time soon. The way to stay in the game is to continue with Education and R&D spending. Stop all this scocialist nonsense the democratic party keeps spreading.
