It doesn't matter whether you are in or out of the closet, we have stress, in the closet you stress about who is still going to be your friend when they find out and you worry about what your family is going to think. When your out of the closet when you like a person of the same sex it is stressful too, you have to figure out if they are gay or not and you have the chance of hitting on an innocent straight person

I would imagine that being in the closet would add a lot of stress. Hiding who you are always adds stress. However, I don't think that being gay would be more stressful than being straight. As a matter of fact, many gay couples don't have children, which in my life is my #1 source of stress. I love the little buggers though.
Bottom line is that everyone experiences stress. Sometimes it's worse than others, but it doesn't discriminate against sexual preference.

I'm about 98% sure that im gay. I would say yes gays have more stress, just based on my life though. I have to try so hard to fit in and theres always been rumors that im gay my whole life. But i do have a couple very close friends that know im gay and my family knows so i at least have people who i can turn to. But, yes i would say gays are more stressed unless they live in a VERY accepting area, which i dont.

Well consider this. If you are straight? Do you wake up every day knowing in your very soul that there are people out there who, if given a chance, would arrest you, beat you, spit on you, condemn you or even kill you, just because of who you are?
You see, as a gay man, that's the reality I wake up with. I lost my husband to a hate crime (he beaten to death in '89), I myself have been shot (NYC in 1992), and have been attacked with a knife more than once, simply for being a gay guy.
Knowing this, what do you think?
I think it's safe to say I probably do have more stress than straight people and I think you'll find it's quite common among other gays, lesbians, transgendered and transsexual people.

If your still in the closet then ya it would be stressful to live a fake life. Once out though I think they adjust and they become happy.

I think gays in the closet have the same amount of stress just different as anyone else, I also think anyone can have stress, it's just in how you handle it!

I think they have more stress...even if they are out of the closet. Think of going into a new position at work and wondering if people would accept you. Or trying to hide who you are so that people don't reject you.

I'd imagine that being homosexual is definitely more stressful (for most) than being straight. Being a minority or against the normal grain of society is never easy. Being in the closet even more so, because you can not express yourself.

I'm guessing here
It seems to me to have a sex partner of the same gender would be WAY easier
More difficult to be accepted in society though.
I'm guessing if someone can pass for straight it would always be easier to be still in the closet about it.
Times are changing but many people just won't accept gay people.

I feel there is more because of ignorance and bigotry of straight people. I am straight but I wouldnt want to be gay or lesbian, I think I would be always frustrated with others.
