I have bachelor's degree in accounting with 2.1 major gpa. I blame that on my laziness when I was at the university. Now I want to get into big 4 accounting firm but I heard that they won't even consider you unless you are a high academic performer. Should I start over and apply to another university to get my 2nd bachelor's degree with same accounting major and do better this time so that big 4 accounting firms will consider me?

Will they consider me if I get a better GPA 2nd time around or will they still look at my 1st bachelor's degree?

A much better option would be to get a masters degree in accounting. If your gpa is high in graduate school, that would lessen the importance of the undergrad. gpa/

Don't bother. First, do you have your CPA? Get that. Then get a job with a local accounting firm, or even at friend's company as an accountant. Put in your time there for two or three years and then no one will ask you about your GPA. They'll just ask how you can help with the bottom line. If you did that poorly the first time around, I can't see you'd have the motivation to really do much better the second time around or even last the whole way through a 2nd, identical degree. I say get a job and prove yourself in the workforce. You want to prove yourself academically later you can get your master's degree.

A 2.1 in your major? Seriously? You might want to think about a different line of work...

A 2nd bachelor's degree is not going to help you. To redeem yourself, you might try to get into a master's program. It's going to be hard with that GPA, though.

Just start out with a small firm if you can and work your way up. Best of luck.

I really don't know too much, what I know is that you should go and check if the firms will consider you. Some employers request the degree OR the equivalent on experience. Leave your resume and let them know that your are willing to go forward on study and training if it is necessary.

Some people go to school so many years and after they graduate, is not easy to find a job because they have no experience. Other people has no degree but a lot of experience that make them to have very good positions because of their experience.
