Some dude (last name probably was Hershey) found a way to make really cheap and low quality chocolate. This was way back in the day... when chocolate was so expensive only rich people would really eat it. So he came out with this really cheap chocolate that the everyday Joe could afford. Eventually, they included it into the MREÂ´s for the Army, and thatÂ´s where you see US soldiers always givin chocolate to little kids in some bombed out city in Europe.

But yeah, hershey started out as super crappy (but affordable) chocolate.
