I've been reading that you should give your rabbit acidophilus pre and post neutering. I would like to know the dosage and how to feed it to my rabbit. This information is missing from anything I read.

I was unable to do any pre-treatment because I adopted him from a shelter. I will be picking him up Wednesday. Any tips would be very much appreciated! I will be contacting my vet today, but I figured while I am at work (and not working :) ) I'd get some some input. Thank you!

Here's is the link where I first read this:

I take acidophilus myself sometimes. They come in capsules that can be opened up to be put in food. Can I use this version, or should I buy a special pet version (if there is a difference)?

There may be a special pet version, but I think yours would be fine for this purpose. The rabbit isn't sick, after all.
I assume the reason for giving it after surgery is that they will have used an antibiotic to prevent infection, and this can kill off some of the natural intestinal flora. Acidophilus helps restore this. It would actually return to normal without this, with very few exceptions. Most people don't treat their neutered pets with acidophilus, and their pets are fine. It's a good measure to take, though.

Acidophilus is the most common and helpful bacteria for keeping the gastrointestinal tract clean. Kind of like yogurt to humans. It would be a great supplement, however, I don't think that this will really have anything to do with the neutering of your rabbit. If you want to get a good price, I would go here:

You can give him a probiotic gel that is available at pet stores. This isn't absolutely necessary, probiotics (such as acidophilus) are used to prevent diarrhea which is dangerous in rabbits. If he doesn't have diarrhea I wouldn't bother, but if he does, feed hay only and use probiotics.
