I'm looking for an official site that has recent figures and perhaps some historical ones. Thanks.

Check out this site. It gives you the answer in pie charts. Defense is the biggest part of our budget.

The US spends appoximately 452 billion dollars annually on defense, and approximately 2 billion dollars on welfare. These figures change annually, but the bulk of tax dollars are allocated for miltiary spending.

Approximately 51% of the worlds defense spending comes from the US. It's pretty sad if you ask me. I don't remeber the source for this but you can verify it on the internet.

Last budget I saw was $2.4 Trillion with $400 Billion going to defense. Therefore, defense gets 16%.

I read some figures on it about a month ago. I think it was in Newsweek. Anyway, the welfare was way off the chart - around 60% and national defense was around 20%.

The cons want you to believe we waste all our tax revenue providing welfare to deadbeats. But it's not true. Over 50% goes to military/defense spending!

Defense and classified operations take up just about 50% of our budget.
