Some people charge an arm and a leg for shipping because they try to make the cost of the good LOW - to attract bidders or buyers, and then they make up for it by charging the huge shipping fee, especially since Ebay does not take a portion from that. Ebay only takes a portion from your selling price and charge you for the advertising fee, not on the shipping amount.

Because it's not only shipping. They are charging handling as well which includes the cost of the packaging material and the cost of the listing.
I have seem some outrageous shipping prices though. $25 for 7-10 day shipping. I work in the shipping department and I know that most things don't cost that much to ship.

I can see eleveating the shipping just a bit to cover packaging and some of the paypal/eBay final value fees but I do agree there is such a real gap in shipping where either it is an honest rate or absolutely an unreasonable amount.

some people charge more because you need to break down the cost of other things, your time ,electric, costs of supplies paper, bags, postage ,ink, your wages, everything you can break down, that you use in your mail order business ,i agree that costs are high but don't use any profit to pay for things for other people. that's why it is shipping and handling, the cost shipping and handling is the time you took to get your packaging, you may need those extra bucks, for when you are sick and someone helps you.

Some people are just plain greedy. I know because my ex makes good money on ebay and despite this, he'll still over charge on shipping.
I guess some people don't realise they're being ripped off.
