I have a RE question that asks to outline 3 Christian teachings which support the Welfare State. It would be nice if I could have a few ideas on what to say...as I cannot find it in my book. Thanks.

do to others as you would be done by (if you were ill or poor you'd like others to help you).....

then there's the concept of tithes, which I'm pretty sure is a Christian one, ie that you give 10% of your income to the poor

and the story of the Good Samaritan, helping people in need

I don't believe for one minute that Christianity means to support people simply because they either can't work (I do believe in helping those that are unable to work) or won't work........for the reason of popping out babies like turnips.
Yes, Christians should help the less fortunate......But somewhere we have generations of families that believe the welfare system owes them.
Nothing gives me more pleasure than for Welfare to assist people in need. NOT people in greed!
Sorry! I just don't see any connection to Christianity and Welfare.
I do see Christianity in the
Food Pantries....Salvation Army..... Good Will.... donations of all kinds to assist (that includes the donations to feed the soul as well as the body.)
The Boy Scouts....The Postal Service.
There are so many people donating. I think that is Christianity. Not Welfare.

I guess I wasn't of much help ...Sorry

Christianity does not support the welfare state.

2 Thes 3:10 says For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."

The welfare state supports people who refuse to work.

Christianity supports charity (love) of your fellow man who is in need due to circuimstances beyond his control

you also have to take in to consideration that God wants to help people, not let them mooch off him. That destroys your work ethnic.
