I started at 224lbs 3 weeks ago, I am currently at 216. I am 5'5 and 26 years old.

According to all the calculators I burn about 3500-4000 cal a day. About 2000 cals from basal and 1500 - 2000 from exercise and daily activity. I take in about 1500 cals a day.

Am I burring fat or muscle? Is there a way to tell? I can lift a lot more not then I could when I started but I have no idea if that is an indicator. I have been feeling more energized as well. But after reading I am not sure if I am doing the right thing.

this is my workout:

I use the elliptical for 1 hour during Lunch. I go at a pretty moderate pace and go about 4 miles in the hour.

Then after work I head back to the gym do 5 min warm up on the elliptical. I then lift weights. Upper Body on Mon/Thurs. Lower On on Tuse/Fri. Mid section on Weds/Sat. I then get on the elliptical run for 30min on the weight loss preset program

I take Sundays off.

You should have your body fat analiyzed by a trainer or doctor. Once you get your BFI you can monitor it as you lose weight.

Congratulations on the weight loss and good luck!

Your muscles are constantly breaking down because the body needs the additional nutrients, etc, and if your exercising daily but not doing any weight lifting, then you'd be most likely losing both muscle and fat.

When boredom, depression, or stress causes cravings, find a nonfood way to fulfill them such as taking a walk, calling a friend, going for a bath, reading a book, or perhaps doing some yoga.

Muscle mass can burn more calories, so include three 20-minute strength-training sessions per week.
