i bought an 86 442 that needs an engine and have a 307 from a 85 cutlass. i am sure the diff is in the cam, and/or heads and carb. any advice please??????? thank you

they had 2-305's back then in the 86 and 87 monte carlo SS the one had 165hp. and the H.O engine had 175hp. and the only difference was a 4bbl. carb on the H.O engine, I would imagine it's the same deal with the olds 307.

I agree, buy yourself a crate motor from a reliable performance center or catalog such as Summit or Jeggs. By the time you rebuild your old engine you will just about have the same amount of money spent, the crate motor is quicker and faster. Shop around and do the homework. Now if you can track down the old 455 big blocks to tinker with that came in the earlier 442's, then thats a different story all together.

get a 350 or 383..all u got is junk smog motors..dont waste ur money
