what is the difference between consignor and consignee?

A consignment is a placement of goods or property in the hands of an agent for sell or disposition. The one who consigns his property to the agent is the consignor and the agent of the consignment is the consignee. This is similar to lessor(owner) and lessee(renter.) The consignment is for a fee, and should be done with a contract stating in the terms the length or period of the contract, the amount of consideration, how damages will be handled, and the details of insurance and security. Also, there may be brand specific requirements, as well as storage/transportation related issues. The sale of the consigned property or the use or consumption of the property prior to sale, must be agreed to in detail.

The Consignor is the sender or shipper of the goods and the consignee is the receiver.

For example on a freight waybill is a document issued by a carrier giving details and instructions relating to the shipment of a consignment of goods. Typically it will show the names of the consignor and consignee, the point of origin of the consignment, its destination, route, and method of shipment, and the amount charged for carriage.

A consignor gives something over to a consignee who accepts care and responsibility for it. For instance, if you take a bunch of heirlooms to a consignment shop to sell for you, you are the consignor and the shop is the consignee.
