They can find out alot easier than that. Any background check using your social security number or birthdate will reveal it.

Yes and easier.
If you have a felony conviction, try to get the record expunged. It can be done if you have not commited any more crimes, had never commit anything serious prior to the conviction, and afford an attorney, and enough time has past.
As for the employer, Do Not Hide It. People make mistakes.Tell him/her upfront. Be honest. I've hired and fired many. Lieing is one of the worst things you can do. Fessing up and learning are what it's really about. If you are forthright, the employer may actually trust you more. It shows you take responsibility for your actions. If you hide it and they find out, you will lose your job 99.99% of the time.
You may not get hired right away or by this employer, but when you do (and you will), you won't have to worry about your past and can instead, focus on the future.

Employers don't usually do fingerprint tests unless you're applying for a government job - this can include city/state offices and universities. Depending on the size of the company or organization, they will do a criminal background check on you, which will probably turn up the felony conviction. There are places where, for a fee, you can have your record expunged, but a certain amount of time needs to pass before you can attempt this. You can look at www.remove-it.org or www.record-clear.com

I have a friend who has a felony drug conviction. This happened about 20 years ago when a small amount of pot was a felony instead of a misdemeanor like it is now. She is a nurse and is always up front about this in a job interview. It still shows up on her criminal background check.

Yes they can, but it depends upon if the felony was in the same state in which you currently live/work and how thorough of a screening they do or the company they employ to do the background checks .

if you were fingerprinted when you were arrested and charged with your felony ...you bet......but all they have to do is run a background check and they can see whether you were ever convicted of a felony
