Old friend since high school emails me again and we start talking online. He admitted that I was the love of his life and that if we had stayed together we would have gotten married. One a year ago he said he was going through a divorce and now living with a woman who he was not in love with .....but that she was there for him through the divorce. He was married for 15 years. The moment I told him that I too never stopped thinking about him and that I still loved him, he changed his story around. He now says he has "circumstances" and that all he can offer is friendship. we still email each other and he reads my emails to him sometimes 10 times . he reads the same email over and over. I have a way of tracking emails so i know who reads them and when. what is this guy so afraid of?I told him that I was in his area and said we could meet for drinks and I can meet your girlfriend. he was found every excuse in the book to not see me. what is up?

He has become attached to you but he wants no strings with it. You have become a sort of comfort for him. Nothing will become of it. You either keep up with the regularities or just tell him your goodbyes. Or, he never divorced and is still married but you have become like a fantasy in his life -- something to keep him going without being attached to you.
