Sure, I used to be a probation officer who worked on felony child support cases. When you have an effect on peoples money, there are going to be some really angry people. Verbal abuse from victims (ex-wives) was a daily occurence. Because I was an officer, I did'nt have to take it, we were not in the customer service industry. And if any of my probationers got abusive they walked out of my office in handcuffs.

Actually, I used to work for a shady personal injury lawfirm and these lawyers were the shadiest of the shady. Got so bad that this one client, a lady suffering from bipolar disorder among others, threatened me on the telephone and told me she was going to come up to the office that day and kill me. Needless to say, I was hysterical. I don't take threats like that frivilously. Everyone else just blew it off. I left for the rest of the afternoon. No, she never showed, but I'd do the same thing if it happened all over.

I use to work for the Child support office..yeah..talk about abuse. We have had to threaten to call the Police, we've had to call the Police, some of us had our tires slashed we did put up surveillance to catch them. We had plenty of Police reports against out customers until really thick glass was put up. With verbal abuse, we just had to take it or ask, what is it that you really want? If it's something impossible you just had to tell them. If you give action back the customers get even more upset, if you give them a chance to yell and scream it gets whatever it is off their chest. They seem to be calmer after wards. But, throwing things is assault.

Verbal abuse. I was a 21 dealer at the time. I told the pit boss and he had security toss the guy out.
Security also saw to it that I got to my care safely at the end of my shift, just in case the guy might be hanging around outside.
