No avoiding it - there was a hunk of wood in the middle of the lane. I straddled the debris, but still heard a loud clunk. Only visible damage is the plastic under carriage appears torn and hanging low. No weird noises, oil pressure seems ok...Anything else I can check - or should I take it in to be sure?

Had a log cave in the bottom of my oil pan, enough that I had to take oil out of the block. The damage did not interfere with the operation of the truck mechanically but it it raised the oil level in the block enough to where under pressure it would have blown seals. So I had to take out about a half quart of oil to get the oil level back down normal..

As long as it's running fine and there is no oil leakage under the car, such as pooling on the ground, I'm sure it's fine. There isn't much it could hurt under there, except the oil pan, exhaust, and/or suspension components. It would be obvious if you have broken a piece of your suspension, and you would hear an exhaust leak if you had damaged that. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you.

If it seems to be running properly, and you don't see any odd leakage underneath, then it's probably okay for the moment.

I'd recommend mentioning it to whomever does your next oil change - just have them eyeball the underside of the car while it's up on the rack.

take flashlight. look under car. check oil pan. check exhaust system. check gas tank. those are the lowest things. if u popped out the plastic rivets/screws that hold plastic shield in place, Lowes carries them. (note home depot does not)
