Prevacid is a brand name for Lansoprazole.

According to "Medications & Mother's Milk" by Hale -

Hale lists it as a "Lactation Risk Category L3" which means "moderately safe." (L1 is safest and L5 is a big no-no.)

Structurally similar to omeprazole, it is very unstable in stomach acid and to a large degree is denatured by acidity of the infant's stomach. A new study shows milk levels of omeprazole are minimal and it is likely milk levels of lansoprazole are small as well. Although there are no studies of lansoprazole in BFing mothers, transfer to milk and its oral absorption (via milk) is likely to be minimal in a BF infant.

The only likely untoward effects would be a reduced stomach acidity. This product has no current pediatric indications although it is occasionally used in severe cases of erosive gastritis.

Under pediatric concerns, Hale says, "None reported via milk. It is unlikely to be absorbed w hile dissolved in milk due to instability in acid."

I took it during pregnancy and have been taking it for 5 years since his birth. He's had no bad effects from it. I have never heard of it ever having abnormal effects on the baby.

If the doctor say its ok to take then it is because docs know what they are talking about.

I don't think it is safe to take any kind of medication while breastfeeding.
Why should some doctor care about what happens to you or your baby?

i dont think so...a great deal of everything that you eat/drink is going to your milk and therefore to your baby...
