I suggest you go for undies, particularly if you've got a zip in your trousers, you don't want to unexpected lose the use of anything.
As a girl I also find it more comfy with a pair of undies on - it doesn't matter how much you trim your pubs one still gets caught in the zipper and I don't like the chaffing from certain hemlines.

on men, undies if its zip up trousers, but commando if its button ups (its just safer that way!)
women depends on what they're wearing, personally i go for thongs because i get no VPL and have all the important bits covered!
