Hi there!
I am looking for information about the day to day life of wheelchair users in order to design an accessible home.
Do you know of any informative website? Maybe you can tell me what you find easy and difficult to do at home?
Thanks for your help!

I was in a wheelchair for 3 months and it was difficult to move on carpeting and to go over thresholds in doorways.

if i were designing a home for a wheel chair user, i would have a ramp to the front door, wider doors , lower work tops in kitchen and a big wide bathroom with handles on the wall. and an even floor right through the house.

I am sure the Motability people would be very interested in your new concept and way of helping people in wheelchairs, sorry don't know their web address but a Google search should help you, I should imagine Scope would be able to help you too, good luck and hope things work out for you.

hi i cant speak for myself but my daughter is in a wheelchair and we had to have a concrete ramp at the front door which comes flush with the threshold, we have a lift through the dining room ceiling which goes in to her bedroom. our doors had to be widened she cant reach the work tops or sink in the kitchen so they have to be lowered. my bathroom has a sliding door so it doesnt restrict the size of my bathroom, my next step is to take the bath out and have a walk in shower, hope this helps .
