At times we dream about deceased relatives or friends simply because we miss them. These dreams may be disturbing but most likely are a form of wish-fulfillment or are based on memory through which we relive old experiences. Some people believe that in dreams they meet up with the deceased on the inner planes and engage in "real" interactions with them. It is normal to miss and long for the people that we loved and that have left the physical body. Therefore, it is not surprising that they will pop up in our dreams from time to time.

Possibly

I wish I could help you but in truth only you can decipher your own dreams. This is fact. However I will tell you what I know about dreams. There are different kinds of dreams. Every interpreter has a different way of grouping them. I find this way works for me.

1.There are prophetic dreams where you see the future. For example, the dreams Joseph saw and took to Pharaoh. They are always in colour and action follows a logical sequence.

2.There are release dreams. These dreams are the most confusing of all. Chaotic, preposterous, disturbing. Emotional exhaling. They are the most necessary dreams because through release dreams we dispose of everyday mental and emotional garbage that we collect. Some are silly but many can be nightmares. Despite the stress, they are important for us. Good way to work out fear angers frustration and stress. Without nightmares, btw, we would easily all end up crazy. Usually they are jumbles of images and as turbulent as the negativity they are helping one dispose of.

3.There are wish dreams. These are just as the name says. We dream of what we want or think we want and usually awaken from them with a feeling of satisfaction.

4.There are information and problem-solving dreams. You fall asleep chewing on a problem and wake up knowing the solution. Or know something we could not have known before we went to sleep. The advice “Sleep on it” is very valid. Did you know the Theory of Relativity came to Einstein in a dream? Or that Mozart received his compositions while he slept? The invention of the light bulb and the sewing machine also came from dreams. Dr. Salk got his ideas for the polio vaccine in a dream as did Stevenson when he created Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

5.There are astral visiting dreams. These are usually telepathic dreams or astral travel dreams.

Only you know for sure, but these sound like visiting dreams! We do that a few times a week at least.

Lucid dreams can be any of the five types above. When a dream is lucid, you realize within the dream that you are dreaming. When this happens, you can take control of the dream.

When you dream of this person, upon awakening take notes immediately of all details. What where they wearing. How old did they appear. What was their mood? What did you discuss? What time of day was it in the dream? What was the setting? Was the sun close or far? Shadows long or invisible. These details make it easier to figure out your dream. Have the pen and notebook nearby because the moment you start to move about the dream evaporates.

Yes you dream of people who are dead just as easily as those who are alive. Sometimes in sleep you visit them, other times they visit you. Sometimes they have a message for you, sometimes it is just because they miss you. Have you noticed how some mornings you wake up with incredible enthusiasm and others when you wake up grumpy? Sometimes that mood is a reflection of whatever we did in our dreams. So if you are being given a message, make an effort to remember it.

Although there is a lot of contraversy about Sylvia Browne lately, her take on death is pretty accurate. The stages the soul goes through, life between lives, etc.

Sometimes when you dream of something it is because your mind is trying to comprehend certain matters which you may not be aware of, so matters floating around in your unconscious. these could have to do with anything really, anything that may have been troubling you over the last day, up to even a year ago. Some say it is just a way of your mind to deal with certain facts, away of unconsciously coming to an understanding or expressing matters which are troubling you in a different way to better comprehend them (however difficult it may seem) i do have a psychology book here that has a section on the representation of dreams. tomorrow after uni i will have a look and if there is anything relevant i will post for you. :-)
Considering i probably made no sense here!

Dreams have meanings on many levels.

When you dream of someone who has died, most likely your subconscious is trying to tell you something about yourself. The clue is to examine your thoughts and feelings about the person. How might that person represent something in you? Is there some part of you that is dead or dying? Do you share any characteristics with the dead person? And so on.

The dead might be able to communicate through dreams, so who knows about that.

However, naturally speaking, your dreams are just a reflection of your thoughts, so that means that you are thinking of them, maybe working through some stuff that you wish you'd said and so forth, or that you just miss them. Maybe it's time to visit their grave or somewhere you shared that means something and say some words for the deceased.

It's your own subconcious that is creating the dream & the symbols in it. So, you'll have to figure out the message on your own by asking yourself questions about the symbols & story.

What does that particular person mean to you? Is there a lesson that that person taught you in life (or, in their absence) that you could/should be applying to a situation that you are facing now?

Having a dream means your brain is rearranging what you experienced while awake and filing it all way so it's more organized and will stick around better. And most particularly NOTHING MORE THAN THAT. There are no hidden meanings to dreams.
