If we do get rid of it then what exactly has to happen? And why would we not want to get rid of bacteria.

Include your references please and don't say "common sense" or " It's all in my head"

Thanx

Why would we want to get rid of all bacteria? It actually protects us. We have bacteria on our skin and in our digestive tract that helps us to live. If we didn't have it we would all die of worse things that could get to us. Think about when you have to take antibiotics for an infection and you get the common side effect of diarrhea. That is because the antibiotics kill off the "good" bacteria in your digestive tract. If you can take a microbiology class sometime - do so. It is very informative and you learn all kids of cool stuff.

We could never and should never rid the earth of bacteria. First of all, bacteria are largely responsible for the breakdown of decaying matter. IF there were no bacteria, we would soon be buried in rotting leaves, animals, etc.

Secondly, bacteria have taken on a new role as mini factory for theraputic proteins. That would be a huge resource lost.

Hard to envisage a world where bacteria is non-existent. But- bad bacteria could be destroyed and good bacteria could be replaced by nano-technology.
