I work shift work obviously. This happened about 6 months ago and I have wondered about it ever since. I timed it with my watch and it was regular to the second. I wondered if it was an orbiting body?, but that would have made it incredibly fast. Now to help anyone answer this I live in Victoria, Australia and it was rising in the east at about 45 degrees. I can't remember the exact intervals but do remember they were regular and about 2.5 minutes for about 30 seconds.

It could be an orbiting satellite. Hubble is visible from earth, as well as the space station. You can find web sites that can track both of their locations. That won't help you now, but it is possible that it would be one of them. Also possible that it was a plane.
