An anesthesiologist is a doctor. A MD. Have to go to med school.

Med schools don't care what you major in college. As long as you fulfill their prerequisite classes, you can major in whatever you want. Of course, at bigger schools, it's easier to get into a lot of the prereq classes if you're a science major like a bio or chem major, but it's not a requirement.

Grades matter most, so major in whatever you like the most b/c if you like the subject, you tend to do better in it.

You don't "choose" anesthesiology until after med school when you go on to a residency which trains you to be an anesthesiologist. Long ways to go. Worry about getting in to med school before you worry about matching in to an anesthesiology residency.

First you should find out what the requirements are for the college where you plan to attend for your anesthesiology degree, and make sure that you meet those requirements. Then if you are not sure what type of anesthesiologist that you want to be, and if the graduate school you are going to attend does not have a specific undergraduate degree requirement for a particular major, then I would suggest biology with an emphasis in chemistry or the other way around. If you want to get creative with your degree and have time I would add a minor in medical anthropology and gerontology. However if you are going to specialize even further, like if you already know what type of anesthesiologist you want to become, say a pediatric anesthesiologist, then of course switch the gerontology minor to a behavioral or child development minor. You have chosen a very strong field to enter. Good luck and hang in there. When the road seems long and grueling, try thinking of something tedious like how long it must have taken to build a pyramid or paint the ceiling of the Cistine Chapel, and this should make your road more achievable.

There are 2 way of becoming the professional who administers anesthesia.

An anesthesiologist is a medical doctor who has specializes in Anesthesia. You would need to complete a bachelor's degree with all the science and math requirements to enter medical school. Medical School is 4 years and then a residency in Anesthesia. Which is another 4 years

A nurse anesthetist is a master degree registered nurse. This nurse would first have to complete a bachelor's degree in nursing. Then the master's degree requires at least 1 year of experience working as an RN in a critical care environment. Then completion of the master's degree in 3 years.
