Is it good for a person of one religion to have Nation somewhere dirrectly associated with their religion?

Take Israel for example (I know it is not a theocracry). I see so many people who see the Israeli government as the spokesperson for Judaism.

Then we've got Iran which people see its crazy leaders and the fact that it is an Islamic Theocracy and they say my goodness the Muslims are trying kill everyone.

Just wanted to make a point that I don't believe the Isreali government represents Judaism and that Muslims want to kill everyone.

Church and state should always be independent of one another. Mainly because the interests of the two rarely coincide. The state should be there to serve basic human needs that are secular--food, clothing, shelter, economy, education. The church should be involved in one area and one area only--spiritual matters. Don't be fooled by the fundamentalist one-issue voters who try to co-mingle the two.

Theocracy is never good, because such government is based on something irrational, with reduced place for logic or tolerance.
Muslims are not trying to kill everyone. There are many kinds of muslims, mostly in quarrel with each other. But I (as a woman, scientist and freedom lover) would never live or raise my children in islamic theocracy. Well, christian theocracy would not be much better.

The only people who see the Israeli govnerment as a "spokesperson for Judaism" are people who are totaly ignorant of both judaism and Israel. Religious jews would never see it as such.
