The last two times Texas has executed a woman, the media seems to make a much bigger deal out of it than when they execute men. Why is this?

I hope the media does make a big deal out of it.

People need to be made aware of the discrepancies in crime and punishment between the sexes and re-evaluate.
After all, people make up juries that decide on death penalty cases.

See: http://www.law.duke.edu/journals/djglp/articles/gen12p179.htm

The conclusion of the paper says it best:

"It is true that men commit a significantly greater number of death-eligible crimes. However, when women commit similar crimes, we should not withhold capital punishment simply because the murderer is a mother, sister, daughter, or wife. As Justice Marshall noted during the Furman debate, "[i]t is difficult to understand why women have received such favored treatment since the purposes allegedly served by capital punishment seemingly are equally applicable to both sexes."336 To avoid the pitfalls Furman and its progeny intended to rectify, the American judicial system must equalize the capital punishment system so that all, regardless of gender, are punished in the manner society and the legal system has deemed appropriate to impose on those who callously take the lives of others."--Reza

The media always takes a position as though something is wrong with everything that is being done so that people will go "oh my, this is awful". Thats just cheesy journalism and to highlight the execution of a female murderer just because she is female makes no sense. Media sucks. The lady killed a kid and buried his body. Adios to her.
