I had a virus that was detected by my AVG free and after the scan I put it in the virus vault. Does that get rid of it? I am now having all kids of pop up every time I go on the Internet. The are constant. Do I have Mal-ware. What do I do?

You need more than just a good anti-virus (and AVG does not have particularly good virus detection rates) to keep your computer free of pop-ups and the trojans, spyware and other assorted malware that causes them.

You need to use anti-spyware
and anti-adware apps also.

Pick and choose at least 2 anti-spywares from the list below and alternate scanning with them on a regular basis. New spywares are created literally hourly, so no single anti-spyware can really detect all malware. Have at least 2 on hand and alternate scanning with each every few days or so. All are free. All can remove as well as detect.

Yahoo! Toolbar with FREE Norton Spyware Scan:
http://toolbar.yahoo.com/

Spybot Search and Destroy:

Ewido:

Adaware SE:

A-Squared:

SUPERAntiSpyware:

Windows Defender:

Unfortunately, many "paid for" anti-spyware products are in fact either of limited usefulness or downright scams. When in doubt, look at the list of rogue anti-spyware solutions listed here:

Good luck.

putting the virus in the virus vault renders the virus incapaple of doing any damage ...

if you wish to you can also delete it out of the vault with no worries ......

always choose the heal option ,this will remove the virus from the system fully ....

you could as suggested buy mcafee or norton anti virus ,but why would anyone want to when AVG will do it all for free..

as for pop ups spy ware ect install adaware se personal ...again this is a free d/load and works very well indeed .....

i have been using both of these for a number of years with no problems at all ....

make sure u get the free edition ,the paid for one is for companys ect

AVG is not a very good AV program, time and again we get people on here saying I've got a Virus & AVG cannot find it or remove it.

There are a lot better AV programs out there better than AVG, if your going to stay with AVG (God help ya) then you need to back it up with something like bitdefender free on line scan once a week.

I never leave virus in the vault, yes, they are still on your computer untill you delete them from the vault.

As for pop up's I think you will find you have spyware on your computer - you need to run a good spyware program.

The free yahoo tool bar comes with a free pop up blocker.

AVG is a good anti-virus tool but not a good anti-spyware tool.

Pop ups are usually caused by spyware/adware,,,Anti-Virus doesnt get rid of spywares,The best way to get rid of spywares, adwares, trojans and pop up is using a best anti-spyware to protect your computer. You must have 1 or 2 antispyware on your computer to protect your computer.Of course there are many solutions exist, all of them with their own strengths and weaknesses. So which anti-spyware is the most suited for your system? You can find out by reading in-depth reviews and comparisons of TOP 5 anti-spywares... some really great tips and links to Spyware removal programs.

The first thing you should do is go to lavasoft.com and download adaware personal for free.

Make sure it is updated, and run a full scan. It will take care of any malware/spyware type stuff (a lot of virus scanners don't notice it).

Once it has done its job, then run your virus scan again to make sure you are clean. Go into the 'processes' tab of the task manager and make a list - search for each item online and see if and how to remove them. Finally run scandisk and defrag on your drive.

Always make sure to keep your data backed up.

Run adaware from time to time too.

obviously your pc still have the virus.. i dont really know about AVG, but with NORTON, when you scan your pc and norton found a virus, it automatically deletes it not put it in a vault. Navigate more your AVG, maybe there is an option there that you can delete viruses in the vault.

The best thing to do in my experience is go to TrendMicro.com, they have a free scan, which will find the malware, or whatever you have in your computer. You have to install a few things to get the TrendMicro scan to work, but it is completely free, its kindof time consuming, but it will remove your problem, plus any others that you may not know about. I am an IT at a hospital, and I use this scan when I have a problem like this.

1) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot http://spywarekiller.hyperboards.com/index.php?action=view_topic&topic_id=4 do that now .Update it http://www.spybot.info/en/howto/update.html (latest updates on 14th march 2007) and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans in safe mode http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

then run AVG Anti-Spyware Free
http://spywarekiller.hyperboards.com/index.php?action=view_topic&topic_id=39&latest=1

then

2) Do an online virus scan to check and remove virus and spyware if you still have viruses on your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .
