Rap talent is very competitive. There are a lot of good rappers out there among you and you have got to have something about you that is different than all the rest. Fortunately for you, though, it is easier to put together a band in Rap for two reasons.
(1). You don't have to put together a whole ensemble band. That means you don't have to find and put up with a lot of people like a drummer, bass player, lead guitar player etc.. You really only need a guy on the programmed synthesizer and a couple of other really good singers.
(2). Everybody and their brother is into it! You can find some guy a couple of houses down from you who can rap.
If you have your group together, then start playing show to get exposure. Stay in contact with talent managers and recording studios and record a demo right on you synthesizer and get it around. You get signed by being popular and knowing the right people. In Rap, there are a lot of Indie Labels that will try you out because they all kind of stick together, somewhat. Good luck.

Send me a recorded track and I will feature it on www.singeraudition.com (contact details on producer page - send on mp3 format via e-mail)
This will give you some well earned exposure
There is some featured rap on the original artists page by "Sindee" called "it's about me"
Take care - Paul C

why not try out for American Idol? Might sound too cheesy for a rapper, but you would stand out in the audition, especially if you write your own stuff.
