You create a WEP key.
WEP = wireless encryption protocol.
WEP creates a "lock" on your wireless network so that nobody can connect to it unless they know your WEP key.
Assuming you have a wireless (a.k.a. wifi, 802.11B/G) network, you would have to have turned WEP on, on the wireless router/access point. The WEP key needs to be the same on the router/AP and the PS3.
If you didn't turn WEP on, on the router/AP, then you shouldn't need it on on the PS3.

If you call your wireless network company and ask them how to take off the security, then you don't even need this key. Otherwise it is the one you were assigned at the beggining of your purchase.

That's the password for connecting to a secured wireless network...if you are trying to connect to someone else's network, you can't without the password...that's probably why they put up the password to begin with though...
