In all the ads for the new premium roast coffee McDonalds is pushing now, their main selling point seems to be, "We add the sugar and cream for you." Is that REALLY a selling point? Does THAT make you say, "Oh yeah, if THEY'RE gonna add the cream and sugar, sure, I'll buy it."

Not being a coffee drinker, I don't understand these things, but is it really that annoying to put what you want in your own coffee? Aren't you afraid the highly-skilled, highly-trained, highly-paid workers at McDonalds might not get it just the way you like it?

That is a definite fear of mine, but I know, in the deepest depths of my heart, that with all their rigorous training and the plentiful incentives to make the coffee to suit the VARYING taste of millions that everything is gonna be alright. I just knew after watching that commercial that is was my right to march back in McDonalds, demand the manager throw the coffee on the ground and say 'Hey, this is not the way I like it! I demand it to be 85% coffee,5%cream and 10% sugar!'
But yeah, I agree, that commercial is the WORST mac commercial I have ever seen.

Personaly I love McDonald's coffee ....only in the morning mind you cause after 10 am it's muddy ! Nobody has told McDonald's that they need to make sure there coffee is FRESH ALL THE TIME NOT JUST IN THE MORNING !!!! THEY WILL NEVER COMPETE WITH STARBUCKS TILL THeY GET THAT DETAIL CORRECT ! That would be the biggest selling point...
Now about them putting in the cream and sugar for me ...I don't like that cause they don't get it right and the creamer they put in is POWDERED creamer not real cream !
I ask for the little creamer cups... Those I like cause it's GROSS when you go into the local 7-11 shop and there's a a warm container of milk on the counter and God knows how many germy people have handled it .... Yuck

You've evidently never attempted to tear open those little sugar packets and creamers while you were in the car, then you have to clean all of them out. I ordered a bagel and cream cheese from a snobbish drive-thru one time, in the bag was the cream cheese and a plastic knife to spread it with. You would think for $9 they would cut the bagel in half and put the cream cheese on.

Why do pizza places slice the pizza for you? Why do burger joints add the tomato and lettuce for you? Why is it that when you buy a guitar the strings are already put on for you?

It's called convenience, as a business owner if you make the customer happy they'll come back.

You're acting as if it's a steak house server standing at your table and cutting each bite for you(?)

I think you are right. I go into a store to get my coffee so I can put it in myself.I don't want too much or too lil for that matter. I want it the way I do it. Just enough cream...I would be nervous about the highly skilled workers there messing it up. Who can do it better then YOU! Dunkin Doughnuts down the street does it for you too and has been for many years is that why their coffee is better? No it is better because the COFFEE is better!

For the most part, I don't have a problem adding my own cream and sugar. I think it's just another gimmick and selling point to show that they have "fast and friendly" service. However, I do see one area where it could be really helpful to have them add the cream and sugar for you: the drive-thru. Since it's not really practical (or safe) to add the sugar and cream yourself while driving, this way you can just get your coffee the way you like it and go, and you don't have to wait until you get to your destination and let it get all cold to enjoy your coffee.

I tried to drink a cappuccino from McDonalds/McCafe one day and it was the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. There is no way that they can make the perfect cup of coffee for everyone because everyone has different tastes. I think I'll stick with Starbucks. Being the McDonalds and other fast food restaurants are supposedly what makes people in the US fat, would it kill people to burn 20 calories to stir their own coffee and sugar?

If you have watched the news, Starbucks is kicking butt because they do it all for you. And it is deli sh but expensol too.
It is just a marketing tool for McD's. It might work for them cause their coffee is way too hot anyway so opening it and adding this stuff is really difficult while driving. LOL.
Personally I like to add my own stuff to mediocre coffee. I would tell them not to bother but just give me the packets.

I am on my second pot of home brewed Folgers as we speak with lots of cream. Yum!!

First of all I'm a manager at McDonald's, and we do add the cream and sugar. We add the amount of cream and sugar that a person request. Also it keeps you from making a mess trying to drive and add your own. And it save minor times. Our saying We add the cream and sugar isn't to draw costumes its to satisfy them. Also coffee is good when its sweet try some.

I drink my coffee black, so it doesn't matter to me. On the rare occasion that I put sugar in it I prefer to do it myself. I wonder what kind of training McDonald's has for putting cream and sugar in coffee? Do they have a coffe university?

Personally, when they started that I quit getting coffe from there. I don't want someone trying to guess how I like my coffee, I want to add my own, I test it as I add till it is how I want it. Even starbucks, at least the one by my house, lets you put in your own, and they are the coffee experts! I think this is only a good selling point to elderly people who may have a hard time adding their own. I would def. trust starbucks before mcd's for getting it right.
