I would take her to see her doctor. Could be nothing.. could be something. I have nursed all 3 of my children and never had that happen. Breastfed babies are usually more constipated?? I heard it was formula fed that were.. hmmm. Good luck

Breastmilk is a natural laxative. Breastfed babies are *NOT* more constipated than formula fed babies. But it is normal for BF babies to stool less often because their bodies use their food more efficiently and there is simply less waste. A baby is not constipated unless he is having dry, hard, formed stools.

The red specks *could* possibly be due to an allergy to something that mom is eating. Dairy is usually the problem most of the time.

If you have a cracked or bleeding nipple, it could simply be from blood baby ingested with the milk.

Does your baby get vitamin drops? Occasionally this can cause blood in the stool.

Check out the link below for more info. Talk to your doctor and your lactation consultant/LLL Leader.

Well firstly it is virtually impossible for a breastfed baby to become constipated. Secondly primary (or permanent) lactose intolerance would have caused failure to thrive at birth and it isn't necessary to stop breastfeeding to treat secondary (temporary) lactose intolerance.

Sadly all my links are on a computer that doesn't have a keyboard. I will get them to you later today -unless I forget. If I do forget PLEASE e-mail me.

breast fed babies are usually more constipated...the red flacks could be from fissures or minute tears due to the passing of hard stools...
you could try a little fibre or glycerin supps for that occasional bout of irregularity
good luck
