while i am pretty sure there is no law that states this, this is simply the way it is in the business world. the higher the level of responsibility, the higher the compensation, ergo supervisors earn more than their employees.

No- living proof of that. I can work 40 hours a week or 60 and still get the same pay because of my salary. But the person whose work I review can work the same 60 hours as I and she gets OT because of her lower biweekly salary. (salary + OT, not an hourly employee)
With this she can make more than me and does. It kinda takes the wind out of my sails and makes me wonder why I wasted money on my degree when someone with no education can earn more than myself; but I have to correct their mistakes.......

No, there isn't. Most companies don't like to do that because it messes up their compensation structures, but it isn't illegal.
