A guy who I know (who is white) recently started dating an Asian muslim girl. When the girls family found of they were not happy. They said they did approve of their daughter seeing him because he's white and non-muslim. This eventully lead to them breaking up because of all of the preasure. When they did break up, the parents of my friend said they weren't too keen on them been together either because she was a muslim. This got back to the girls parents and they went mad. They went mad and branded them racists and have given they nothing but hassle since. Isn't that just double standards?? They were the ones who brought RACE into it. They basicly said "I don't want you seeing him, he's white." My friends parents only had a problem with the RELIGIOUS differences. They never mentioned the fact he was asian. And there are white muslims after all....Why is it that in sociaty asian muslims can say they don't want their family seeing someone who's white, but not the other way around?

There is a cultural difference here. Muslim women and Asian women have a specific value to their families, and the parents have a moral responsibility to marry daughters to men who protect them from dishonor and spiritual degredation. A non-muslim white man could not be expected to know the seriousness of these responsibilities, nor the lengths to which he must go to carry out this duty, simply because his mind has not been trained to think this way. The Muslim parents were not being racist, they were being practical. It may have sounded racist, but it was said with the protection of their daughter in mind, and the protection of their culture and traditions.

The white parents, however, simply objected based on the difference in religion, as if that alone were enough reason that the girl wasn't good enough for their son. That is racist.

So difficult! Both sets of parents are placing judgements. I think the children can make their own minds up and should be together, if they really want to. Parents can look out for your wellbeing but can't make the decisions for you.

Who says that its OK!!!!

Its not!!!!

They (the muslim) family have a sense of entitlement I guess. They feel they are better and how dare someone suggest they are not.

Narrow-minded people don't usually see when they're in the wrong.
