I got a flattop yesterday and she did a "one" on the sides and back. It looks funny. Shouldn't it be shaved ? The top is very short.

You should go back to the same shop and get it recut.Every salon I've ever worked at has been more than happy to do that for clients.Flat tops are one of the most challenging for hairstylists.I personally like doing them, but about 90% of the girls I work with dodge them when they come in the door.Barbers do the best flat tops.

I generally have a number one on the sides when I have mine done, I have a couple of rockabilly and physcobilly mates who have theres shaved and it looks really extreme, I think a one is the norm.
As for the top if its done properly with a flat comb that has a spirit level in it it will look short but in proportion, theres not many people who can do flat tops well.

I cant remember the last time i saw someone with a flattop. I think i must have be in 8th grade and that was in 1989.
