the soonest is around 16 wks, though its not very reliable at that time, doctors like to give ultrasounds around 20 wks, which was when i got mine and i didnt find out for sure what i was having until about 28 wks, because of the posistion he was in.

Sonograms are images produced from ultrasound are pulses of sound projected through the womb and when the waves are received back, produce an image of the baby. did you know that ultrasounds are intensely loud for your unborn baby, that is why 99% of all babies in the womb squirm during an ultrasound? They are in hearing pain! That is why you should only have 2 at the most during your pregnancy. If you are worried about which sex of child you are going to produce, you are already having a baby for the wrong reason.
Typically you will have an ultrasound done at 20 weeks to determine if the baby is deformed in spinal or heart manner. This helps your doctor prepare for the birth should it be nessasary. By 16 weeks, you can determine the sex, by 20, it's very determinable, but never reliable.

well I am 17 weeks now and last week I went in for an u/s and they said def a boy! ( I was 16 weeks ) I am not entirely relying on that tho. I am scheduled for another u/s when I am 20 weeks, so I am glad we get another looksie!
since you can have it done whenever, I would do one around 16-17 weeks, and another one a little bit later if you are skeptical (like me)
good luck!

I'd say 20 weeks. My doctor had me wait until 22 weeks to be sure. Two of my friends had them at 17 weeks, and the results were wrong.

Usually about 4 or 5 months, they usually shoot for 5 months because the baby is bigger. Personally I am going in at 4 months because that is what my doctor suggested, if nothing is seen than I'll go in the next month.
