The morning after pill isn't 100% effective.
It is 95% within 24 hours after unprotected sex, 85% within 25-48 hours, and lower after 48+ hours. It can be taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex.

Taking the second pill a little late won't have too big an effect on effectiveness, but if you have left it more than 24hours or so, call NHS direct on 08454647 for advice.

If you have left it too late for the emergency contraceptive pill then you can still have an IUD, also known as a Coil, fitted up to five days after unprotected sex, to prevent pregnancy occurring.

The IUD works by stopping an egg from being fertilised or implanted in your womb and can be left in as a form of regular contraception or removed after a normal period. It is 98%-99% effective.

Contrary to what some people believe, emergency contraception pills do not cause an abortion. They prevent ovulation, fertilization, or implantation just like a birth control pill does.

Emergency contraception hormones prevent fertilization by stopping the ovary from releasing an egg (ovum). They also make the fallopian tubes less likely to move an egg toward the uterus. Emergency contraception is also thought to thin the lining of the uterus, or endometrium. The thickened endometrium is where a fertilized egg would normally implant and grow.
As another option, a copper-bearing intrauterine device (IUD) can be inserted within 5 to 7 days after unprotected sex.

*The first dose may be taken up to 120 hours, or 5 days, after unprotected intercourse.

you could risk it and take it asap, then carry on or start to take the pill.

or you could go back docs and get another morning after pill.

all depends on how long you left it. you have 72 hrs to sort something out. if you dont you have to wait about a week or two and take a test. it there is slight chance you could be pregnant because you missed the times on morning after pill- you cant take anything. and you have to make thast clear to docs.

be trying to take something after the 72 hours may result to miscarriage or a baby with problems.
