Sure he can. The doctor can prescribe one of the less expensive drugs. Walmart and Target offer over a hundred drugs at $4......most of them maintenance medications like BP medications. So, yes. He can afford it. He should still eat healthy, lose weight if he needs to and exercise.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Cut down on salt, fried foods (if you must fry use olive oil). Also pay attention to the sodium content in foods such as frozen dinners, etc. Even some of the "healthy" dinners have a lot of sodium. Drink water, exercise (even losing as little as 5 pounds can make a difference in blood pressure). Older people that I know swear by taking a teaspoon of vinegar every day to keep blood pressure down, I don't know how well this works though. There are medication assistance programs you might also want to check into.

Hi KC!
Sufficient amounts of potassium-rich foods. To bring your husband blood pressure to the normal level you must consume adequate quantity of potassium. Rich sources of potassium includes fruits, such as cantaloupe, bananas, watermelon, oranges and orange juice, as also potatoes, spinach, and zucchini.
Reduce consumption sodium, of high-sodium processed foods(meats, and some pre-packaged, frozen and canned foods, most soups, and condiments),
Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast. Eating in the morning will increase your energy and will help you avoid snacks before lunch. A quick breakfast can be as easy as a bowl of cereal, a slice of whole-wheat toast, cereal bar or fresh fruit.
Your husband daily food intake must include foods from five food groups: Please look article: http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/High_Blood_Pressure_Diet_Guidelines/
See your doctor before making any diet or lifestyle changes.

Herbally, Cayenne is an excellent herb for blood pressure..it has the properties to fix both low and high blood pressure. Advil is the WORST thing you can use, so if you have to use something medical - then use aspirin.

Having high blood pressure is no joke it can lead to stroke, heart attacks, kidney & liver damges eventually, and death...

There are no natural remedies, He can change his diet, low fat, no fried foods and absolutely no alcohol. You can find recipes on-line.
Also, Walmart Pharmacy has info on Pharmaceutical Companies who are willing to assist with medication cost.
