It depends where you are. In most jurisdictions in the world, no it is not illegal. There are, however, some countries (and some states within the US) where this would be illegal.

It can also depend on the relationship between the two people (meeting through friends often has a different age of consent than a teacher-student relationship, for example), and what sort of sex they are having (many jurisdictions have different ages of consent for sodomy or fellatio versus missionary sex).

If you want a brief summary of ages-of-consent around the world, the website http://www.avert.org/aofconsent.htm is a good place to start.

I guess it would depend on the state you live. Consentual sex starts at age 16 meaning an adult the age of 50 can without legal consequences have sex with a child.

Now, the next question should be is a 16 or 17 year old responsible enough to accept all the consequences of the sexual act. There are consequences to all actions. Not only could a pregnancy come into play but STD's, and what's even more overlooked is the fact that a 16 year old is not mentally equipped to deal with the aftermath. Furthermore, most people are not mature enough for a sexual relationship until they reach the age of 30.

Does premarital sex often happens? Absolutely! And look at all the problems we have in our communities. My suggestion is that you get to know you before engaging in activities that can make lifelong changes that you may regret.

It's according to the laws where you live.

It is the 23 year old that should know the laws and should be able to keep his zipper up, if not then, he should meet the long arm of the law.

Ignorance, of the law, is no excuse.

It depends on the age of consent in your state. For example, in Kentucky, the age of consent is 16, so it would not be illegal.

Even if it's not illegal, it's stupid. That's why there are laws against statutory rape.
