If you are "older", have (family) health problems or high risk pregnancies best to get to the doctors sooner than later.

Even if you don't anticipate problems there are tests to consider that are best administered within the first trimestester. STD tests, spina bifida (SB) and downs (DS) testing are some of the options. A fairly new technology is NT testing for SB and DS. It involves a combo of ultrasound and blood work administered between 11-13 weeks and its not as readily available as a regular ultrasound. Timing is key here, so if you want to know of potential fetal problems, talk to your doctor about getting the paperwork to book your appointment. NT testing is more accurate than the older style Maternal Serum Screening (MSS) which have given "False Positives". Doctors have lots of pamphlets on all the tests available...be sure to read them and don't enter into each test too lightly: know the accuracy levels and any risks.

By 2nd trimester you will be measured, weighed and peeing in a cup regularly. Only then did my doctor let me hear the heartbeat for the first time. 1/2 way through your pregnancy (18-21 weeks) you will have the standard ultrasound to check baby's development and organs. At that point you may want to ask about the sex if you want.

Congratulations.

Schedule an appointment to be seen, the sooner you get care the better it could be for both you and your baby. You also need to get prenatal vitamins if you already haven't. Lack of vitamins can result in abnormalities but that is only if you aren't' getting adequate nutrition.

Also, most doctors will want to see proof that you are pregnant (as in an ultrasound) this way they can make sure that you are pregnant and that there is a baby in your uterus before prescribing prenatal vitamins. Some woman can have positive pregnancy tests only to have an empty space.

Good Luck and Congratulations!

You should go ahead and make an appointment now so that you can get put on prenatal vitamins and sometimes they even do an ultra sound this early just to get a look and make sure evrything is going ok. Plus there are alot of things you need to be careful about timing such as certain tests that need to be performed at certain times, ect.. Blood work and several other things. Call your doctor today and good luck!

Call and get an appointment for between 6-8 weeks. The doctor's office will tell you what they prefer. But ask for a prescription for pre-natal vitamins. Also, make sure you are eating things rich in folic acid. These early weeks are most important for avoiding spina bifida.

Call now and make an appointment. They will ask you how far along you are and then they will give you a appointment around the time you should come in. The first appointment is usually around 9/10 weeks pregnant.

Most doctors won't see you until 8 weeks unless there is a problem. Some even want to wait 12 weeks. You should go on and make your appointment, and be ready to go when your doc is ready for you! Good luck!

I'd call and make an appt. Even tho i called right away they had me come in asap to do bloodwork to get it verified.. but after that they said they wouldnt see you until 9-12wks. Sadly mine was closer to the 12 wks mark :( All depends on how2 busy they get i guess.. hehe So yea i'd call them ASAP.. they might just give you an appt for a later date but might make you get a bloodtest just to make sure.! GL!
